14th German Sustainability Day: First Climate is Climate Protection Partner

Congress compensates for emissions with First Climate

On 2 and 3 December 2021, the German Sustainability Day and German Sustainability Award (GSA) will take place for the 14th time – for the first time as a hybrid event this year, live and online. As First Climate is climate protection partner of the event, the company will compensate for the carbon emissions generated during the ceremony.

In the course of the two-day congress in Düsseldorf, the focus will be on the five key areas of transformation: climate, biodiversity, resources, society and supply chains. 120 delegates from business, politics, research, and civil society will exchange views with participants on the core topic: transformation towards a sustainable future. Central questions which the participants will address in panel discussions are for example: How can the Glasgow COP26 agreements and the European Green Deal be implemented? How can extreme weather events be prevented and how can the transition to a circular economy succeed? What are the roles of the German government and the financial sector, and how can each and every one of us contribute to the transformation?

The ceremony of the German Sustainability Award will be the highlight of the program on each evening. This year, the prize will again be awarded in various categories, including research, business, sustainable economy, municipalities, packaging, architecture, and design. Furthermore, the Honorary Award honors popular (inter-)national persons who are committed to social and ecological causes. This year, the winners include EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as the decisive initiator of the European Green Deal, renowned climate researcher Prof. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, and Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, who is being honored for his long-lasting commitment to peace and social justice.
