“America has endless opportunities for businesses to lead climate action.”

First Climate is attending Climate Week in New York City to signal strengthened engagement in North America.

Building upon its present North American operations and drawing on over two decades of international experience in the climate sector, First Climate has been strategically positioning itself in 2023 to increase positive climate impact in North America. The Germany and Switzerland-based company's strengthened presence in the region demonstrates its dedication to helping North American partners and businesses set and achieve ambitious climate goals.

First Climate has an established foothold in North America: The company supports climate projects in the American Carbon Registry, advises clients across the continent on emission reduction measures, and since 2018, has been one of only 50 companies globally to be certified under the North American green power certification program Green-e. Moreover First Climate has also developed many close partnerships in the region, particularly with USA-based climate project developers Impact Carbon and Impact Water.

The year 2023, however, has seen the company make bigger waves in the region. First Climate added North American experts to its international team, giving clients a direct contact point with specialized regional knowledge. Businesses now receive comprehensive climate solutions with a trained eye on developments in the North American climate action landscape. On the project side, First Climate made headlines earlier this summer for its role as carbon asset manager for the groundbreaking biochar project “CARBONITY” in Port-Cartier, Canada.

These steps are just the start of the company’s increased engagement in North America. Mike Hatert, COO, and Maximilian Schlicher, Business Development Manager for North America, will be in New York City from September 17-24 for Climate Week, connecting with partners and clients on the ground to signal their readiness to engage.

Mike will also exchange insights with other greenhouse gas emission reduction experts at the North American Climate Summit, an event from the International Emissions Trading Association.

New Developments in the US

First Climate’s increased engagement also comes at a time of regulatory change: New SEC climate disclosure regulations are on the horizon for US businesses. Likely to take effect in fall 2023, this sets the stage for many companies to re-evaluate their current climate strategies.

“The US market moves quickly: Not only are new climate regulations likely, but we’ve seen significantly increased climate expectations from both consumers and investors. Sustainability is no longer a want, but an expectation of companies,” explains Maximilian Schlicher. “We can help them to understand and exceed those expectations.”
