Running Together for the Climate: Cooperation with B2Run

First Climate is B2Run’s climate protection partner for their running events and the BASF FIRMENCUP 2022

This year, the First Climate team supports the company run organizer B2Run as a sponsor and climate protection partner. As part of the collaboration, First Climate calculates the runs’ carbon footprints and compensates for the running event’s unavoidable emissions. First Climate employees will also be at the starting line at the B2Run Frankfurt event on June 14, 2022.

B2Run organizes company run events in Germany and offers online programs to promote good physical health. For 22 years, B2Run has been organizing Germany’s largest running series in 19 locations, including the BASF Firmencup at Hockenheimring in Baden-Wuerttemberg and the newly added Koblenz.

For the past two years, all runs were cancelled due to the pandemic. That’s why B2Run is all the more motivated for the kick-off of this year’s season in Stuttgart on May 24, 2022.

The home stretch – Running green with B2Run

The preparation phase for a running event and participants’ travel to and from run locations result in increased consumption of fuel, heat, and electricity, which leads to higher greenhouse gas emissions. B2Run is conscious of their climate impact and is taking the appropriate countermeasures with First Climate as their climate protection partner:

„Unfortunately, the fact that carbon emissions are produced during our running events is unavoidable. At B2Run, climate and environmental protection are a high priority, which is why we strive to keep our runs’ environmental impact as low as possible. That’s why we are delighted to have First Climate, an expert with many years of experience in this field, at our side to support us in our climate protection commitment,” explains Lars Gerling, Managing Director at B2Run.

Compensating for a carbon footprint entails offsetting unavoidable emissions by supporting a certified climate protection project. B2Run’s carbon footprint is compensated with emission reduction certificates from the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve REDD+ forest protection project in southeast Borneo, Indonesia. Local project activities save 64,000 hectares of natural rainforest from deforestation and contribute to preserving the forest as a carbon sink.

On your mark, get set, go! First Climate at the starting line in Frankfurt

The First Climate team will also take on the running challenge this year. 25 passionate runners from First Climate will participate in the Frankfurt on the Main running event on June 14, 2022. Team building and promoting good health are important to the company, and First Climate CEO, Olaf Bachert, is particularly pleased with this cooperation:

“It’s about being active as a team, strengthening our cohesion, and running together across the finish line, all while promoting physical health and climate protection. It is great that sport can combine fun, team spirit, and climate protection commitment. That’s why we’re happy to support the B2Run running series.”
