Trailblazing Biochar Project

Our collaboration with APD (Auen Pflege Dienst) is the longest running project partnership in our plant biochar program. A trailblazing project, APD's initiative was the first to generate carbon credits from the production and application of biochar. Since June 2019, APD has been operating a pyrolysis plant in Flaachtal in the canton of Zurich. The focus is on the production of top-quality biochar.

APD is also a founding member of AgroCO2ncept. In an Agroscope (Competence Center of the Swiss Confederation for Agricultural Research) resource project, AgroCO2ncept is testing the possibility to use biochar on intensively used agricultural soils, with the aim to sustainably increase soil carbon content.

Soil is the largest carbon sink on earth. Biochar is an important tool in this regard, and our collaboration with First Climate enables us to harness the technology's potential for climate action.
