TÜV Rheinland recertifies First Climate’s "Green by Choice" products

Boost sustainability efforts with certified green power solutions

Again in 2024, First Climate has successfully completed the recertification process for its renewable energy offers in the “Green by Choice” product line. This independent audit, conducted annually by TÜV Rheinland Energy & Environment GmbH, verifies these sustainable power products are derived from renewable energy sources

In recent years, demand for green energy in Germany has surged, driven by consumers increasingly prioritizing sustainability. Since February 2019, TÜV Rheinland has been carrying out annual technical audits regarding the source of First Climate’s renewable energy products. In early summer, First Climate successfully completed this audit for its branded “Green by Choice” green electricity product line. The audit includes a detailed review of the green energy certificates (e.g., guarantees of origins, I-RECs, RECs, and other compatible certificates from the respective national certifying systems) in accordance with the applicable regulations in the corresponding energy market. Undergoing this audit and receiving these certified seals from TÜV reinforces First Climate’s commitment to quality control for its renewable energy solutions.

The products included in quality control audit are: “Naturstrom BASIS,” “Naturstrom Wasser und Wald,“ “Naturstrom ReInvest lokal“ and “Naturstrom Kind und Zukunft.” The "Green by Choice (v1.1)" (hereafter referred to as “Green by Choice”) quality seals are issued based on a specific set of quality control standards that must be met, including being verifiably procured from 100% renewable sources. These additional quality measures are in place to safeguard the credibility of the products and meet consumer demands for transparency, regional sourcing, and environmental compatibility.

Renewable energy supply with transparency and co-benefits

With advancement in renewable energy offers, clients have come to expect a high degree of flexibility and customization options for these products. First Climate introduced a comprehensive criteria catalog in 2019 in a rigorous effort to ensure the credibility and transparency of its green energy products, which cover all types of sustainable alternatives to fossil-fuel derived electricity and gas. In the past, these attractive options were restricted to municipal energy suppliers, however over the last year, First Climate has established an avenue to open these innovative energy sources to all types of energy attribute certificates (EACs) to across the globe. Additionally, corporate clients have the option to select from a range of individual features, which can be interchanged in various configurations to meet specific needs. Many of the options allow the purchasers to financially contribute to local climate action initiatives as well.

“This recertification underscores our commitment to the quality and transparency of our 'Green by Choice' sustainable energy solutions. We are seeing a growing number of corporates and energy suppliers that are intentionally adding renewable energy options in their procurement mix.
