Biochar Production in the
Swiss Alps  

Project Portrait

This project is located in Lucerne, Switzerland. As part of the project activities, shredded wood residues from the Swiss Alps are used as a raw material for the production of biochar using a special pyrolysis process. This wood, a by-product of forestry, would otherwise rot if it were not reused for the project.

The end product is high-quality, EBC-certified biochar, which is to be used in soils, animal feed and building materials throughout Switzerland. The pyrolysis process also generates thermal energy, which is used by residents in the project region for heating purposes.
