First Climate’s cookstove project in India is among the first globally to offer issued carbon credits with the CCP label
The climate action service provider and carbon project developer First Climate has received recognition from the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) for its Kranti Clean Cooking Initiative (Kranti) under the Core Carbon Principles (CCP) label. With this milestone, First Climate is amongst the first project developers worldwide to offer issued Gold Standard carbon credits with the CCP label from this project type.

“Being awarded the CCP label is a major success for us and a clear recognition of our project’s exceptional quality. It demonstrates that emission reductions achieved by the Kranti Clean Cooking Initiative are not only verified under Gold Standard, but also meet the ICVCM’s Core Carbon Principles criteria. This places Kranti among the leading projects of its kind worldwide regarding quality, transparency and environmental integrity,” says Yves Keller, Head of Community-Based & Article 6 Projects at First Climate.
The CCP label represents a new benchmark for trust and credibility in the voluntary carbon market. It is awarded only to projects that demonstrate robust governance, conservative quantification, as well as rigorous monitoring and verification, helping ensure that emission reductions or removals are real, additional, durable and accurately measured.
First Climate has been co-developing the Kranti Clean Cooking Initiative since 2023 together with India-based project developer Kosher Climate. The project was registered under Gold Standard in January 2025 and issued its first 77,230 Gold Standard Verified Emission Reductions (GS VERs) this past December. The CCP recognition was based on the project’s adherence to the CCP-criteria and the eligible Gold Standard methodology.
CCP: A new global benchmark for high-integrity carbon credits
To meet ICVCM’s criteria, First Climate and Kosher Climate applied rigorous emissions accounting practices based on the CCP-eligible Gold Standard methodology: "TPDDTEC – Technologies and Practices to Displace Decentralized Thermal Energy Consumption, v 4.0." This includes conservative baseline and project scenario assumptions, robust monitoring of stove usage and household fuel consumption, as well as strict safeguards to ensure verified emission reductions are credible and not overestimated.

Efficient cookstoves deliver climate and community benefits
By distributing improved cookstoves to around 50,000 low-income households in rural Madhya Pradesh, the Kranti Clean Cooking Project helps families reduce fuelwood consumption compared to cooking with traditional "chulha" cookstoves. This reduces emissions, helps mitigate forest degradation, saves time for families, and contributes to a healthier cooking environment by reducing indoor air pollution.
“What makes our Kranti Clean Cooking Initiative stand out are the strong bonds that we keep with the communities as well as the robust monitoring processes that we have implemented to verify the project impact,” explains Pablo Carballo Chanfón, First Climate’s project manager to Kranti.
Each of Kranti’s improved cookstoves is tagged with a unique ID number to ensure accurate and reliable data collection. In line with the implementation strategy, documentation of the project's climate impact continues well beyond the initial distribution of the cookstoves. Follow-up monitoring includes in-person visits to every household throughout the lifetime of the project to ensure the highest possible data quality. These visits confirm that the improved cookstoves function properly and provide beneficiaries with guidance on correct usage and maintenance. All data is monitored and stored transparently on a designated digital dashboard.
The CCP recognition further strengthens First Climate’s position in the voluntary carbon market and supports its long-term ambition to deliver climate impact with the highest levels of transparency and accountability.

What is the Core Carbon Principles (CCP) label?
Carbon credits that carry the CCP label must demonstrate a real and measurable impact on reducing emissions and meet the strictest criteria globally across governance, transparency, quantification, monitoring, and verification. Projects must apply scientifically sound methods, undergo independent verification, and demonstrate that their climate impact is conservatively quantified to reduce the risk of over-crediting and double counting.
