The Project

Im Mittelpunkt dieses Projekts steht die Wiederherstellung und nachhaltige Bewirtschaftung von Mangrovenwäldern in der Region des Niger-Deltas in Nigeria. Darüber hinaus ist es das erste bei Verras VCS und CCBS registrierte Nature-Based Solutions-Projekt in Nigeria und setzt auf eine enge Zusammenarbeit mit der lokalen Bevölkerung, die direkt in die Projektarbeit einbezogen wird. Darüber hinaus bilden die Mangroven einen Lebensraum von einzigartiger biologischer Vielfalt.

This project focuses on the restoration and sustainable management of mangrove forests in the Niger Delta region in Nigeria. Moreover, it is the first nature-based solutions project registered with Verra’s VCS and CCBS in Nigeria and places great emphasis on close cooperation with the local population, which is directly involved in the project In addition, the mangroves form a habitat of unique biological diversity.

Sustainable Development

Zero Hunger

Dank des regelmäßigen Einkommens durch die Aufforstungsarbeiten im Rahmen des Projekts können die Beschäftigten ihre Familien mit gesunden Lebensmitteln und sauberem Wasser versorgen.

Quality Education

Lokale Arbeitskräfte und Freiwillige (etwa 320 Männer und Frauen) erhalten eine praxisbezogene Ausbildung und werden bei der Suche nach alternativen nachhaltigen
Beschäftigungsmöglichkeiten unterstützt.

Decent Work and Economic Growth

Im Rahmen der Projektaktivitäten werden mindestens 10 Vollzeitarbeitsplätze für einheimische Frauen und Männer im Bereich der Bewirtschaftung von Mangrovenwäldern geschaffen.

Reduced Inequalities

Mindestens 50 % der geschaffenen Arbeitsplätze werden von Frauen besetzt (etwa 120 Frauen). Sie werden entsprechend geschult und erhalten die Möglichkeit, sich ein eigenes Einkommen zu sichern und dadurch mehr Unabhängigkeit zu erlangen.

Climate Action

Blue-Carbon-Projekte bieten eine der wirksamsten Methoden zur aktiven Entfernung von Kohlendioxid aus der Atmosphäre. Mangroven haben die Fähigkeit, CO2 zu binden und es auf natürliche Weise über und unter der Erde sowie im umgebenden Boden dauerhaft zu speichern.

Life Below Water

Die Mangrovenwälder im Niger-Delta dienen als einheimischen Fischen und anderen Wildtieren als natürlicher Lebensraum. Das Projekt trägt also zur Bewahrung der marinen Artenvielfalt bei.

Zero Hunger

Due to stable income flow resulting from reforestation jobs, workers will be able to routinely provide their families with healthy food, clean water and other nourishment.

Quality Education

Local workers and volunteers (roughly 320
men and women) will receive on-the-job training and further help in finding alternative means of employment which are sustainable and not detrimental to the
mangrove forests

Decent work and economic growth

The project creates at least 10 full-time jobs for local women and men. The jobs will entail mangrove forestry management.

Reduced Inequalities

At least 50% of the jobs established by this project will be held by women (about 120 women). As part of their employment, these women will receive additional training and potentially be able to secure income independently.

Climate Action

This Blue Carbon project represents one of the most effective ways to reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide. The mangroves have the capacity to capture CO2 and store it naturally above and below ground, as well as in the surrounding soil.

Life Below Water

The mangrove forests in the Niger Delta provide an optimal habitat for native fish and other wildlife. As a result, the biodiversity of marine life will increase.
