Wieland Group secures long-term solar PPA with First Climate’s support
The Wieland Group will cover some of its future electricity requirements with green energy from a new solar park in Nauen, Brandenburg. Wieland, the copper and metal specialist from Ulm, and Vattenfall, an energy supplier and project developer, have agreed to a long-term electricity supply contract. The Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) secures the Wieland Group access to the environmentally friendly solar power generated by the 46 MW plant for ten years. The First Climate Renewables Team supported Wieland on the successful conclusion of the PPA.
To achieve its climate targets, the Wieland Group has been relying on the purchase of electricity from renewable energies for some time now. Now, with the conclusion of the direct power purchase agreement for the plant in Nauen, Wieland is taking another important step on its decarbonization journey.
The solar park in Nauen is currently under development. Once completed and connected to the grid next year, the park will generate around 46 gigawatt hours of environmentally friendly solar power each year. This amount corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of more than ten thousand households.
Thanks to the electricity supply contract and the supplied energy, Wieland-Werke AG in Germany will be able to cover around ten percent of its electricity requirements with renewable energy, saving around 29,000 tons of CO2 emissions. For the company, this is another important step towards reducing its own climate footprint.
"In addition to producing our own electricity with photovoltaic systems, Wieland has the ambitious goal of using 100 percent renewable energy for its electrified production facilities in the future." -- Dr. Erwin Mayr, CEO Wieland Group
"Based on our sustainability strategy, we are resolutely driving forward emissions reductions. In addition to producing our own electricity with photovoltaic systems, Wieland has the ambitious goal of using 100 percent renewable energy for its electrified production facilities in the future," explains Dr. Erwin Mayr, CEO of the Wieland Group. "This is why this electricity partnership with Vattenfall is another key milestone for climate action and for achieving our sustainability goals."
PPA consulting by the First Climate Renewables Team
To prepare the power purchase agreement, Wieland also used the support and expertise of the First Climate PPA consultants: As Wieland’s partner, First Climate oversaw the tendering process to identify suitable renewable energy projects that met Wieland's needs. As part of a comprehensive analysis, the bids were then qualified in detail, which ultimately led to the conclusion of the contract with Vattenfall and the project in Nauen.
"PPAs enable a reliable supply of sustainably generated energy and offer long-term price security." - Steven Krawietz, Senior Expert Renewable Energy at First Climate
"PPAs enable a reliable supply of sustainably generated energy and offer long-term price security. This makes them an important instrument for climate action," says Steven Krawietz, Senior Expert Renewable Energy at First Climate. "We are delighted that First Climate was able to support and guide this PPA agreement between two well-known European companies. We are happy to help to contribute to securing a sustainable power supply for Wieland-Werke AG while also promoting the further expansion of renewable energies in Germany."
PPAs give you the opportunity to be a part of the development or operation of a renewable energy project, making them an interesting component of your green energy strategy. Our experts can help you find suitable PPA models to achieve your green energy goals.
