Powering Your Business, Protecting our Climate
Electricity consumption is normally one of the main contributors to a company’s carbon emissions. Therefore, sourcing electricity from renewable energy resources is an integral part of any comprehensive corporate social responsibility strategy.
Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) provide clean energy-credit for every megawatt-hour of fossil fuel-based electricity consumed. 1 REC corresponds with 1 MWh of the electricity consumed by a company. First Climate’s green electricity allows you to neutralize the carbon emissions stemming from your firm’s electricity consumption, whilst demonstrating your environmental integrity and commitment to climate protection.
New Possibilities to Report Corporate Emission Reductions
Due to recent changes to the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, the global standard for carbon accounting, companies can now report emission-reducing effects derived from the consumption of green electricity, which they were previously unable to do. For firms that want to switch to green electricity, First Climate offers tailored green energy solutions, based on
Guarantees of Origin (GoOs) are the established standard for renewable energy certificates in Europe. The most important attributes to consider when purchasing GoOs include country, technology type, production period and age of the renewable energy installation generating GoOs. GoOs represent a wide range of renewable energy types including hydro, wind, biomass, solar and geothermal from all across Europe.
When working with First Climate, we make sure that your GoO-purchase strategy is in line with international standards (e.g. GHG Protocol, CDP) and the issuance and the redemption of your GoOs are conducted in the relevant electronic registries on your behalf, adhering to all domestic and European regulations.
When purchasing Guarantees of Origin, you are lowering your company’s Scope 2 emissions and maximise transparency. We support you in getting the right GoOs for your organisation and by making the procurement and redemption process as simple and seamless as possible.
First Climate is a participant of the Green-e Energy program and supports RECs purchases adhering to the standards set forth by the Green-e. The Green-e is the leading independent certification and verification program for voluntary REC purchases in North America and sets high consumer-protection and environmental-integrity standards for greenhouse gas emission reductions.
In 2016, more than 53,000 companies purchased Green-e certified renewable energy products. To achieve certification, renewable energy products must, among other things, be based on energy generated from new facilities and marketed in a transparent manner that guarantees that they are not sold more than once or claimed by more than one party.
With “Renewable Power North America”, First Climate offers a Green-e certified product which is based on renewable energy certificates sourced from 100% renewable generation. "Renewable Power North America" by First Climate is compliant with CDP and GHG Protocol guidelines and can help to reduce a carbon footprint resulting from power consumption at sites all across the U.S. and Canada.

Australia, Japan and South Africa use their own, regionally based, national accounting system for renewable energy certificates: Australian GreenPower, Japanese Green Energy Certificates, and South African zaRECs. We support you in getting access to these markets and reduce your scope 2 emissions with the nationally available RECs-systems.
The International REC Standard is a standard for issuing, tracking and redeeming renewable energy certificates in countries where other tracking systems are currently not available. I-RECs are issued, transferred and redeemed in one central I-REC Registry. Through our engagement with the IREC-Standard host organization, we have access to numerous IREC-projects all over the world and are able to deliver green energy credits for various countries, including China, India, Taiwan, Turkey, Vietnam and Mexico.
In order to create a globally trusted market structure for renewable energy, TIGRs have been introduced as of September 2016 as an alternative global registry for renewable energy certificates - next to the I-REC Standard.
Based on demand, the range of available TIGRs will be extended gradually to all major projects and countries.
