First Climate presentation about "What Biomass project owners may gain from GHG emission reduction initiatives" on 23 September, 14:00 - 15:30


Konstantin Drozd, Project Manager CIS and Eastern Europe, gave a presentation about "What Biomass project owners may gain from GHG emission reduction initiatives". He addressed the following issues:

1. What GHG emission reduction schemes/initiatives are available to date?
a) JI under Kyoto Protocol: track 1 or track 2 - differences, advantages, disadvantages, appropriate project types, methodologies, ERUs contribution
b) VER market - normally not applicable for Ukraine
c) Green Investment Scheme (based on AAU trading under Kyoto Protocol): rules, advantages, disadvantages, appropriate project types
d) Voluntary Emission Trading scheme - only an idea so far

2. Approaches for marketing of ERUs under JI
a) Forward contracts
b) "Develop, finalize and sell"
c) How to get upfront payments, procure the financing: bank guarantees, ERPA-backed deals
d) Equity investments: requirements
