First Climate at Carbon Markets Africa

Nikolaus Schultze, Director Project Finance with First Climate, chaired the panel discussion "The Common Challenges in Developing Carbon Projects in Africa".

This panel took place on Wednesday 11 November at 10:20 and addressed the following issues:

•    A discussion of project development challenges
•    Can CDM rules be simplified?
•    Should the range of eligible projects be broadened?
•    How can we augment institutional capacity?
•    What do the markets need from regulators?
•    What are the risks involved?


Nikolaus also moderated the panel about "Success Factors in Encouraging Investment to Africa's Carbon Markets". Held on Tuesday, 10 November at 14:50, the discussion focused on

•    What are the obstacles to carbon investment and how can they be overcome?
•    What can regulators do to encourage investment?
•    What are investors looking for?
•    What are the risks associated with carbon investment and how can they be mollified?
•    Sharing experiences of CDM project financing

Mr Schultze also gave a presentation about the monetization of ERPAs' in the pre-conference project host seminar on 9 November.
