
In 2009 Mexico ranked fourth in the world for the number of registered CDM projects and fifth in the world for Certified Emission Reductions (CERs). Mexico has also identified over 100 larger-scale projects in the operating segments of PEMEX and CFE. In Central America Honduras and Guatemala lead the take-up of CDM, followed by Panama, Costa Rica and El Salvador. The region is ideally positioned to benefit from policy developments and to implement more projects.
Delegates learned from best practice case studies from both mature and emerging markets and gained a clear understanding of the current regulatory framework, investment criteria, project start up requirements, CER credit production optimization and the progress of the region in preparation for COP16.
First Climate participated with two sessions: On September 7 there was a pre-conference introductory workshop, hosted by Paola Del Rio, Senior Sourcing Manager Mexico and Central America.
On September 8 Martin Kruska, Director CAD took part in the panel discussion 'Supply and Demand: Tackling the Bigger Questions for the Future of Carbon Credits'.
