Markus Hüwener, CEO of First Climate, gave a special address: Carbon crunch: Meeting the climate change cost

On the sidelines of the recent Bali UN Climate Change Conference (December 11th), the UNEP FI Climate Change Working Group launched its latest CEO Briefing: "Carbon Crunch: Meeting the Cost". This study analyses the most recent studies on the cost of climate change, the benefits of early mitigation- and adaptation-action, and the investment and finance flows required to meet the upfront cost. Some of the issues to be discussed include the status quo and the next steps needed to better align mitigation and adaptation objectives with the economic performance targets of financial institutions; be it:

• insurance companies developing climate related risk transfer instruments,

• institutional investors assessing the carbon footprint of their investee-companies or

• project financiers embracing the flex-mex opportunity
