Credit Suisse becomes Switzerland’s first major climate neutral company and the second climate neutral financial service institution globally. On behalf of Credit Suisse, 3C offsets all greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused by its operations in Switzerland and by business flights out of Switzerland, altogether approx. 240.000 tonnes between 2006-2008.
Climate change is one of the biggest environmental challenges facing the world, and has direct implications for business, politics and society. As a growing global corporation, Credit Suisse is committed to combating climate change. 3C supports Credit Suisse in facing this challenge through the development and implementation of the company’s climate neutral strategy.
Over the past 18 months, as part of a “Greenhouse gas-neutral Switzerland” pilot project, Credit Suisse has developed a multi-phase strategy for reducing the greenhouse gases it emits in Switzerland. The bank has cut its GHG emissions remarkably through energy efficiency improvements and by sourcing a higher proportion of “green” electricity. The remainder of approx. 80.000 tonnes annually is offset via 3C through the purchase and retirement of high quality emission reduction certificates. 3C purchase certificates from 5 renewable energy and transportation projects, among those projects are wind parks in Turkey and New Zealand and a biogas installation in South Africa. Thanks to the services provided by 3C, as of 2006, therefore, Credit Suisse is the first major corporation to neutralize all GHG emissions caused by its operations in Switzer-land and by business flights out of Switzerland.
Based in Frankfurt am Main/Germany, 3C is specialised on carbon offset and emissions trading services for corporate clients. 3C is responsible for the implementation of the climate neutrality of the FIFA Football World CUP 2006TM in Germany. 3C further implements climate neutral strategies, services, events or products e.g. for HSBC, Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Post/DHL, Deutsche Telekom and Allianz Group.
